Philosophy of the Artist
Usually, an artist is inspired by a subject for a
specific reason, but sometimes we paint just to allow
our creativity to flow. When I paint, a number of things
might lead me to choose a given subject, but I find that
almost every subject has a hidden message, and I often
wonder if that message led me to paint the subject to
begin with! As you read through the text which
accompanies my paintings, you will come across many
messages. I hope that it inspires you to notice things
of importance in your life in a new way. There are
messages about life in almost everything we see.
Additionally, many of my subjects are chosen for their
complexity, shapes, colors, values, and the like. I have
tried to explain each painting from my point of view,
but in the end, it's your point of view that matters.
One of my favorite scraps of philosophy is "We don't see
things as they are, we see them as we are." (Anon.)
Please enjoy browsing through OUR GALLERY. I hope you
enjoy reading my thoughts about each painting, but I
want you to keep an open mind, and allow your heart to
do the talking! Allow yourself to agree or disagree.
There is no right or wrong. Art is subjective. Feel your
feelings and march to your own drummer!
About the Artist
Heather Molans’ parents were both artists who painted in
Miami, Florida, during the nineteen fifties. She spent
her childhood watching them paint. Spending time with
them in their exotic, south Florida garden also infused
her with a love of tropical plants. As an adult, she
prefers to paint tropical botanical subjects.
Heather was a “natural” artist. Her parents gave her no
formal training, and waited, instead, for her to develop
her own style. She began winning art awards in the third
grade.
Heather studied art and education at Barry University
where she graduated with a BA degree.
Following graduation, Heather taught art in the public
schools until a career in commercial art lured her away.
She spent more than twenty years designing for ad
agencies and printers, as well as free – lancing.
Turning to painting as a hobby when she stopped working,
Heather was captivated by the brilliance of watercolor.
Her strong, vibrant colors reflect the steamy, tropical
gardens and bright Miami sun of her childhood.
Acceptance into numerous juried shows brought her
inclusion in the Miami Watercolor Society’s “Active
Membership” category which allows her to use the “MWS”
designation following her signature.
Heather is an award winning South Florida artist whose
work appears in both private and corporate art
collections here and abroad. She has enjoyed gallery
representation, and has exhibited in many parts of the
United States.
A published artist whose work has appeared in brochures
and on billboards, in magazines and on magazine covers,
she currently teaches an ongoing adult studio watercolor
class, and continues to paint. Heather is writing an art
text based on her classes.
